2007 Santo Domingo Music Festival
The sixth edition of the Santo Domingo Music Festival was presented in the Main Hall of the National Theater Eduardo Brito from March 7 to 17, 2007.
The Santo Domingo Music Festival celebrated its tenth anniversary and its creator and artistic director, outstanding conductor and pianist Philippe Entremont, elaborated a very special program for the occasion, consisting of six attractive concerts with internationally renowned soloists.
The Festival Orchestra, with more than one hundred members, integrated by musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra and from abroad, offered four of the six concerts conducted by maestro Entremont himself and one by maestro José Antonio Molina as guest conductor. In addition, a concert dedicated to Mozart music with the Festival Chamber Orchestra composed of the principal musicians of the Festival Orchestra. The lyric night “No tenors allowed” with the National Symphony Orchestra and National Chorus, conducted by maestro Alvaro Manzano, Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra.
Due to the tenth anniversary of the festival, two new symphony pieces of Dominican composers, specially commissioned for the festival, were premiered. One was composed by maestro José Antonio Molina and the other by Darwin Aquino, winner of the 2003 Festival National Academic Composition Award.
