This production of Sleeping Beauty has been delighting the Covent Garden public since 1946. A classic of Russian ballet that crowned the Royal Ballet, in its new headquarters after World War II, as a world-class company. Sixty years later, in 2006, the original staging has been revived, returning to Oliver Messel’s wonderful designs and brightest costumes. Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky’s wonderful score and Marius Petipa’s original choreography go perfectly with the sections created for the Royal Ballet by Frederick Ashton, Anthony Dowell and Christopher Wheeldon. This ballet will bewitch anyone who sees it.
