It is open to the public and has been celebrated inside and in frontal part of the basilica.

The first gala, sponsored by Banco Popular Dominicano, was celebrated in the Main Hall of Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito in the year 2002. Maestro Domingo, together with soprano Ana Maria Martínez, presented a thrilling program composed of arias and opera and zarzuela duos.
The second gala “De mi Alma Latina, also sponsored by Banco Popular, was presented in Gran Teatro Cibao in the year 2004, with Mexican singer Tania Libertad. In both galas the National Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Maestro Eugene Kohn
En 2011 Plácido Domingo returned, this time invited by Fundación Sur Futuro to present the concert “Lo mejor de mi alma latina” in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of that prestigious institution. Together with Maestro Domingo was soprano Iride Martínez and mezzosoprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera. On this occasion the National Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Maestro Ramón Tebar.
In September 2002 we presented the Orquesta Nacional de España for the first time in Santo Domingo. This presentation was a true musical event, not only because the orchestra is one of the most outstanding in the world, but because it was conducted by a legend, Maestro Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos.
The orchestra included Santo Domingo as part of their American tour thanks to the generous collaboration of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, of the National Institute of Scenic Arts and Music, of the Spanish Embassy in Santo Domingo and of our Ministry of Culture.
In May 2006, we presented this dynamic orchestra, conducted by its Principal Conductor, Alejandro Posada Gomez in our National Theater Eduardo Brito. Santo Domingo was the closing of their American tour in commemoration of the fifth centennial of the death in Valladolid of Admiral Christopher Columbus. Together with a Spanish repertoire, the orchestra played Antonin Dvorak’s New World Symphony in homage to this tour. The tour was sponsored by the Junta de Castilla y León, the Spanish Embassy and Spanish Cultural Center in Dominican Republic, our Ministry of Culture, Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito and Dominican enterprises of Spanish origin.
